The phone call

So I go to bed at like midnight, totally exhausted from the day, knowing that I have to wake up at 6:30. Suddenly I am woken up by my phone. I was all confused--did I sleep in (cuz who calls very early in the morning)? But if I slept in, why is it still dark? Unknown number? The only time my phone shows that is when Mike calls me from his computer. I just talked to him two days ago. Why is he calling me early in the morning?

I answer it. Some foreign voice says something unintelligible. "What?" "This is Ruth!" Finally it all connects--my favorite companion, Ruth Nyamugara from Zimbabwe. It's 4 a.m.!!! She totally forgot about the whole time difference thing. She told me she got married, but I thought she said, "I'm not married." I was like, "oh." Then she says, "I got married." I thought she was joking at first cuz she's a tease and I thought she had said she wasn't married the first time. Anyway, that finally connected for me. Gimme a break guys, it was 4am, ok!

Then she tells me she's making an appointment to go to the Johannesburg temple. I was thinking she meant a temple trip, but after I woke up again when the real morning time came, I realized she meant that she made the appointment for a sealing. Once again it was 4am.

How cool is that? You just don't get calls from Zim every day. Aparently she called my house in Oregon at 3 a.m., but my dad forgot to tell her what time it was. Hee, hee, my parents were mad until they picked up the phone and it turned out not to be someone trying to call their voice mail (which happens all the time--our number is one digit off).

Yay!! My phone rang at 4am the other morning, but I didn't answer it. I just swore at it and went back to sleep.

Nessa, it was probably your one true love! You've got to answer it next time.
